Summer Skin Survival: Secrets to a Radiant Glow

Every summer, something shifts.

Not dramatically. Not all at once. Then the weather changes. The products that were working just fine suddenly don’t perform the same way. Foundation that looked great in April feels heavier than it should. Skin that was balanced starts running oily by noon. As a result, many people assume they did something wrong. Maybe they changed too much. Or maybe they didn’t change enough.

In reality, it’s none of that. It’s just summer.

For example, your skin responds to its environment. Heat increases oil production. Humidity changes how products absorb. In addition, Sweat, sun exposure, and air conditioning affect your skin differently. They create challenges you weren’t dealing with a few months ago. None of this is a problem. It simply means your routine may need a few seasonal adjustments.

This summer, there’s a new lineup worth knowing about. Here’s a first look at what’s new, why it exists, and how it fits into the season ahead.

The Foundation Situation Just Got a Lot Better for Summer

Summer foundation option featuring Mary Kay TimeWise 3D Foundation

If you’ve ever had a summer foundation experience that started strong and gave up on you by noon — you’re not alone, and it’s not your technique. It’s usually the formula.

The new TimeWise 3D Foundation ($28) solves that problem directly. It comes in 36 shades and two finishes. It’s designed to hold up in heat and humidity without feeling heavy. It also helps prevent settling throughout the day. That’s especially important in summer. Nobody wants their makeup working against them by lunchtime.

In addition, the new Complexion Sponge ($14), designed to pair with the foundation for lighter, more buildable application. In summer, when the goal is usually to wear less product rather than more, the way you apply matters as much as what you’re applying. A sponge gives you that natural, skin-like finish without layering on extra coverage you don’t need.

Finding your shade: my website now has a Foundation Finder tool — no download required. You answer a few questions, it recommends your shade matches, and you can send me your results directly. I’ll get you a free sample to try before you commit to anything.

A Blush That Does Something More

The new Limited-Edition Blush Sticks ($20 each) come in two shades — Kind Spirit and Spark Change — and they’re part of something I’m genuinely proud to be a part of this year.

For every blush stick sold, $1 is donated to the Mary Kay Ash Foundation, which funds research and support for survivors of domestic violence and cancers affecting women. That runs through November 15.

Beyond that, these are a summer staple in a practical sense. Cream blush works with your skin rather than sitting on top of it — which in heat and humidity, is exactly the behavior you want from a color product.

The Mascara Upgrade (And How to Find Yours)

The new Lash Love Fanorama Define+Lift Mascara ($18) is worth knowing about if mascara is part of your daily routine — which for most people, it is.

Additionally, I also have a Mascara Mania quiz. It helps you find the best formula for your lashes because mascara isn’t one-size-fits-all. Lash type, what you’re looking for (length vs. volume vs. lift), and how your mascara tends to behave throughout the day all factor in. If you’ve ever grabbed a mascara that looked great on someone else and landed differently on you, the quiz is worth trying.

Something for the Men in Your Life

True Optimism Eau de Parfum ($55) is a new men’s fragrance — and with Father’s Day in June, the timing is intentional. If you’ve ever found yourself scrambling for a gift that feels genuinely thoughtful rather than generic, a fragrance chosen specifically for someone lands differently than a gift card.

Worth keeping in mind as you’re thinking through the month.

After the Summer Sun

Finally, most summer skincare conversations stop at before — SPF, protection, prep. The after matters too.

The Special-Edition After-Sun Replenishing Gel ($20) is a light, soothing gel designed for after sun exposure, on your face or your body. It pairs with both face and body SPF to make sun care a complete routine rather than just a before step. Your skin does most of its recovery work after you’ve come in from the heat — what you put on it then is part of the picture.
